SA expert changing the face of African Supply Chain Management

SmartProcurement editorial board member Dr. Douglas Boateng has been elected president of the first supply chain management (SCM) centre of excellence in West Africa, of which he also a founder.

The West African Institute for Supply Chain Leadership (WAISCL) is the first of its kind to be opened in West Africa and Boateng hopes that it will become the leading SCM education and training provider for public and private sector organisations in the sub region.

During an inaugural lecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, he urged delegates to embrace the concept of SCM as the surest roadmap to sustainable development.

“SCM is what makes the difference between developed and under-developed nations. Through the application of careful SCM principles Africa’s economy will improve and bring more meaning into the lives of the people,” said Boateng to the 1 000 delegates who attended the lecture in April.

He concluded by urging Ghana to begin applying smart supply chain management principles to transform the economy. “In so doing, the country will be laying a solid foundation for future generations.”
