Ronald Mlalazi (FCIPS) appointed MD of Commerce Edge

Ronald_small.jpgCommerce Edge South Africa has announced the appointment of Ronald Mlalazi (FCIPS) as their new Managing Director.

He succeeds Bernie van Niekerk, who, after 18 years leading the business, will now focus on Commerce Edge's international business expansion.

Mlalazi joins Commerce Edge's team of country heads from Australia, Africa outside of SA, and soon-to-be-established USA.

"For the past two years, Commerce Edge has been focusing on our internationalisation strategy and the time has come for me to move on and develop the Commerce Edge business from an international perspective", said Van Niekerk.

Mlalazi has been part of the Commerce Edge team since 2009, starting out in the Commerce Edge Academy as an Education Manager before rising to Commerce Edge's Head of Academic Development: Education and Training, in 2017.

In the same year, Mlalazi was elected by his peers as Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Congress representative for the Africa constituency, a role that he will hold until 2019.

Recently, Mlalazi was nominated to the Interim Supply Chain Council South Africa's professionalisation sub-committee, which is an advisory committee supporting the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Chief Procurement Officer in National Treasury, and the Council of Higher Education on matters relating to the SCM profession.

In this role, Mlalazi sets and regulates norms and standards for supply chain management; sets minimum ethical practices and standards for practitioners and professionals; and serves on an advisory committee for professional organisations and from academia.

"Supply chain professionals must be ethical and professional in their dealings with stakeholders. This can only be achieved where procurement professionals belong to a recognised professional body that regulates, promotes and protects its members. Through the Council we are driving this professionalisation," said Mlalazi.

Notably, he was awarded a CIPS Fellow status (FCIPS) in 2012, recognising his extensive contribution to the procurement and supply chain profession. As a CIPS Fellow, Mlalazi advocates at a senior level for the procurement and supply chain profession globally.

FCIPS is the highest grade of CIPS membership. It is an accolade that recognises an individual's global professional standing, level of achievement, knowledge and experience in procurement and supply chain.

During his tenure at Commerce Edge, Mlalazi has led the Commerce Edge Academy to become the first CIPS Centre of Merit in Africa, and enrol and support 1 600 students studying towards various supply chain qualifications, including CIPS and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

"It's truly inspiring to see how Ronald has grown during his time with Commerce Edge", said Van Niekerk. "I'm grateful that we can hand the leadership of Commerce Edge in South Africa into his capable hands. He is highly respected by his colleagues, his clients and stakeholders in the supply chain education space. Ronald knows the business inside out and has achieved remarkable things during his tenure."
