This leading mineral resources company has built a division of achievers who have yielded large savings. They are looking for a seasoned commodity manager with sound knowledge in chemicals and gases and extracting value by TCO. Johannesburg; R650-800K.
Key responsibilities:
To formulate and execute BU wide commodity strategies that deliver cost effective solutions for operational requirements and to provide commercial leadership in value management and other initiatives aimed at reducing the Total Cost of Ownership of commodities, products and services purchased by BU. This includes:
- Establishing, leading & developing the capability of cross functional commodity teams;
- Liaising with Business Unit customers in investigating opportunities to lower the total cost of ownership of strategic commodities;
- Developing and project managing the execution of commodity strategies;
- Acting as the interface between BU business unit customers, commodity owners and suppliers;
- Providing strategic input into managing key commodity contracts;
- Providing commercial services in respect of acquisitioning of materials and services;
- Defining supplier performance/productivity improvement criteria & measures
- Arranging for testing / piloting of new technology (acts as a portal into BU).
- The incumbent’s ability to gain credibility with internal customers and persuade people to change and / or adhere to a certain strategic direction is critical. An in depth understanding of the supply market for each commodity, and the ability to determine opportunities for cost reduction and supplier enhancement, is important.
Skills:
- A recognised degree in business, finance or engineering.
- A postgraduate business management qualification is preferred.
- MBA Advantageous
- Five years’ business management experience; of which some must have been in a consulting or influencing role.
- Prior exposure to commodity management, procurement or an engineering or production environment is highly desirable; as is demonstrated success in managing a multi-disciplinary team in a project type environment.
- The ability to craft long term internal and external business relationships; cause & manage change; and provide strategic leadership is essential
