Visitors and exhibitors flock to the Smart Procurement World conference

FirstPic.jpgAs the second day of Smart Procurement World conference unfolds, more than 1000 visitors have come through to equip themselves with knowledge about procurement, supply chain, enterprise development and how to support Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME).

“Google can give you so much, but by attending this conference, I am hoping to find relevant suppliers, particularly black-owned female companies. We want our company to be in line with the B-BEEE Codes and thank goodness for this platform where one can source active and relevant suppliers,” said Tamsyn Louw, procurement professional attending the conference.

The conference allows exhibitors to network, mingle and connect with potential buyers. Through this participation SMMEs can grow and expand their business horizons.

A second day of great content

Lillian Karuri-Magero, former Head of Sourcing, Barclays Africa and her team of panellists discussed “Driving operational excellence through capacity development”.
• Tips from thought leaders - 5 competencies essential to getting the most from your procurement and supply chain teams
• Attract and retain the right talent to lead your strategic procurement initiatives

Magero was joined by the following panellists:
Jon Harris, International Professional Development Coordinator, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, UK.
Ronald Mlalazi, Head Academy, Commerce Edge SA
Andre Coetzee, Managing director, CIPS Africa
Ozias Ncube, Unisa, Graduate School Business Leadership (SBL)
Themba Shezi, Head: Integrated Programme Management, eThekwini Municipality.

SecondPic.jpgFirst time in South Africa and attending the Smart Procurement World conference, Harris said that seeing the number of SMMEs coming here and exhibiting is encouraging. It allows access to key decision-makers, policy-makers and people coming to the conference. But most importantly, the conference has allowed SMMEs to showcase their businesses and show professionalism in their craft.
