Public Sector SCM Summit played host to 10 HDI students

LGSA with Margaret Richings.JPGIn a bid to promote experiential learning, and open up our conferences to interns / learners and trainees SmartProcurement’s Public Sector Supply Chain Management Summit and Workshop played host to members of the Logistics Graduates of South Africa, based at the Vaal Technikon (LGSA).

Attendance by the ten B-Tech Logistics Management and Commercial Management students was made possible by the co-sponsorship of Volition Consulting Services, SmartProcurement and the Commerce Edge Academy.

“These students attend classes at the Vaal Technikon. But unfortunately, Vereeniging does not present many employment opportunities for them in the field of Supply Chain Management. So the sponsors now want to help them meet practitioners in SCM and in the industry and to let the Procurement fraternity know that these young minds are available for internships and junior posts,” said Euvrard Loubser, Commercial Director of SmartProcurement.

Spokesperson for the students, Lamie Tshutshu, B-Tech Logistics Management, said "it was a great experience for us all", and that the two-day Summit and one-day Government Tenders Workshop had made them aware of how much they still had to learn and how the majority of that learning would only occur after the completion of their tertiary education.

“However, we’re not disheartened. A gap may exist in our knowledge, but we know we now have some support and the appropriate means, through the likes of conferences and workshops, with which to build our knowledge and experience,” Donald Thulare, B-Tech Logistics Management, told SmartProcurement.

The sponsors will be keeping tabs on the students’ academic progress and if organisations have any opportunities for them then let SmartProcurement know an we will put you in direct contact with them.
