Exceed Empowerment and Consulting Services
Exceed Verification Agency (Pty) Ltd. (E.V.A.) is a subsidiary of Exceed Empowerment and Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd. (EECS). We entered the BEE verification industry after having identified the need for professional expertise and ethical standards relating to verification services. Originally we traded under the name “Exceed Rating and Compliance Services (Pty) Ltd” but changed our name at the beginning of 2006 to bring it in line with the now accepted terminology of “verification” as apposed to “rating”.
AUDITING AND LEGAL EXPERTISE
The complexity of the different drafts of the Codes of Good Practice on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (the Codes) that were released since 2004 made it abundantly clear that a mere knowledge of the Codes would not suffice when it came to verifying a company’s Broad-Based BEE (B-BBEE) status. In addition to a sound knowledge of the Codes it was clear that verification agencies would have to have financial and legal expertise to effectively perform verifications.
REPUTATION OF THE VERIFICATION INDUSTRY
It was also clear that certain early movers in the verification industry were bringing the industry into disrepute with attempts to monopolise the industry. Although to date, no company has been accredited to perform verification services some “verification agencies” have and continue to engage in practices to convince potential clients that they have been accredited. There was clearly a need for a verification agency that prescribed to the ethical standards of the auditing and legal fraternity and that could provide a professional verification service supported by in depth financial and legal expertise.
OUR REPUTATION
Our experience, professional expertise and specialised BEE knowledge has in a relatively short space of time gained us the respect of our peers in industry and in government. We have appeared as BEE experts on national television and have been published on several occasions in the national media as experts on the topic of BEE. We also serve on the advisory council of the Wine Industry Charter and are regularly consulted by various role players that partake in the development of other sectoral transformation charters.
We have also been invited by the Department of Trade and Industry to be one of 9 founding members of the Association of BEE Verification Agencies (ABVA) which has subsequently been recognized by the DTI as the industry body for verification agencies. It is important to note that in terms of the draft Codes, membership to the industry body will be a prerequisite for attaining accreditation as a verification agency. Currently we also serve on the executive of this body and act as alternate members on a technical committee of this body tasked with negotiating with SANAS the criteria for accreditation of verification agencies.
Our client base ranges from small enterprises to large listed companies. For clients that wish to proactively and accurately establish their level of BEE compliance we are uniquely positioned to assist them with the verification of their B-BBEE statuses.
