"We are thrilled to be recognised for this achievement. Our commitment to supporting all business units with standardised procurement processes has been dramatically improved by the Purchasing Hub initiative - the team and all involved who delivered the project and earned this award are well deserving of the recognition," Peter Alkema, the winning project owner and Head of CAO OPS Absa, told SmartProcurement.

The Absa Purchasing Hub was setup to place orders on behalf of all Absa branches on SAP SRM. The project now supports numerous business units which have cumulatively purchased close to R250-million through the call centre team.

The financial benefits realised from the initiative have already recovered the setup costs, and ensure that with incremental volume increases, further benefits will be generated. Cost, speed and efficiency of processing have all been improved.

“The Absa Purchasing Hub is truly an example of industry leading, world-class operational procurement, as shown by its outright win in the category of ‘Best Process Improvement’ at the IPSA awards,” enthused Alkema.
